The NYS Department of Transportation is still deciding the legalities of the Syracuse building that partially collapsed Friday. The DOT held a meeting Tuesday to discuss if demolishing the building is within their power.
The state and the city are having difficulties agreeing on the demolition. Before the meeting today, NCC News spoke with the owner of the building, Anthony Tartaro. Tartaro says he is unsure of what is going to happen.
“The state’s hiring this surveyor here and I think maybe that’s why the state doesn’t want it to be their problem. I’m not sure. The city and the state have been going back and forth,” Tartaro said.
The building is next to Interstate-81 north, which has been closed since the collapse. NCC News could not obtain comment from the DOT Tuesday because of the meeting.
